World-known biathlonist Weronika Nowakowska has just become the Ambassasdor of European Winter Para Sports Event, Poland 2020. The competition starts on Tuesday 25th February and will be held in Czarna Góra Ski Resort and Duszniki Zdrój Cross Country Center.
Weronika Nowakowska is a Polish biathlonist, one of the best in history of winter sports in our country. Her best performance was during World Championships in Kontiolahti in 2015 when she won silver and bronze medals. Having ended her sport career she has become TV expert and sport commentator. Promoting winter para sports and sport activities among people with disabilities is a new task for her, but she decided to do it with great enthusiasm. The motto of ParaSki4Europe is “One sport – one Europe – one dream” and as Weronika Nowakowska confirms dreams and determination are crucial to obtain sport aims.
– Sport is a beautiful metaphor of life. For many years it was my lifestyle – my life. I feel great knowing great sport event ParaSki4Europe is just about to start and feel happy to be its Ambassador – emphasizes Weronika Nowakowska. For me sport of people with disabilities is a proof it is worth having dreams, following and fulfilling them. It is also a great lesson of humility, perseverance and inner force. I do admire people who despite many difficulties try to obtain their aims. Noble ideas are fundamental for Olympicism and sport and are outstandingly visible in the competition of people with disabilities. I can’t wait!
European Winter Para Sports Event, Poland 2020 is the first ever non-comercial event of this kind in winter sports for athletes with disabilities. As an accompanying activity, “Inspirational & Motivational Meetings with Paralympians”, strengthening inspirations and motivations in para-sport, will be organized. The fact Weronika Nowakowska has become the Ambassador of the competition and has a very strong message for all the participating athletes is very important for Łukasz Szeliga, the President of Polish Paralympic Committee.
– Weronika Nowakowska is a very special person in sport, she proves in sport there no barriers nor limits. The fact such a biathlon star, who can serve as an idol to follow is our Ambassador makes me believe those who can will pick up doing sport and will stay in Paralympic movement. We do expect para cross-country skiing and parabiathlon are sports which shall develop as they are accessible for many people due to its low costs in comparison to para alpine skiing for example. Weronika Nowakowska becomes a friend of paralympic family and we are very happy about it. Integration through sport is always actual.
